Hertford's Main Street Program to host "Antiques Weekend"

Historic Hertford, Inc. once again sets the stage for a fabulous opportunity for residents and visitors alike. Hertford Sweetheart Weekend Encore will offer three outstanding events. So plan on extending your Valentine's celebration to February 18, 2006. Hertford will host its second Antique Appraisal Fair. Since it was so successful last year, it will be held at the Hertford United Methodist Church, which has a much larger space. The Church is at 200 Dobbs St. and the hours will be expanded as well, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. This year there will be a total of eight appraisers to accommodate additional requests.

The appraisers, from both N.C and VA., include Art Clow, Sue Draper, Edward Fearing, Ron Katzberg, Edward & Henry King, Faye Lamb, Edward Mathews and Ed & Virginia Perva. Ticket holders will have a vast array of expertise for their treasure appraisal. Advance tickets are suggested. Items are $10.00 each and tickets are available at the Perquimans County Visitor Center-118 W. Market St., Hertfordshire Antiques-134 N. Church St and Out of the Past- 107 W. Grubb St.

In its 6th year, Hertfordshire Antiques will host the very popular Valentine's Silent Auction, at 134 N. Church St. Preview is from 10 a.m.-to noon and bidding will begin at noon and end at 5 p.m. Donations and consignments are welcome! Many treasures are to be had at the auction. Proprietor Jane McMahon has set up this event for the benefit of the Hertford Main Street Program, Historic Hertford, Inc. She will accept both consignments and donations (252-426-3640). The proceeds are used to fund the downtown beautification program.

The last event, and new to this year is the Seminar and NC Wine Tasting at the Newbold-White House Visitor's Center, on Harvey Pt. Rd. This will begin at 5 p.m. Van Coe, Viticulturist and Lynn Crouse, Winemaker form Stony Knoll Vineyards will be presenting. Tickets are $10.00 each and available at the Perquimans County Visitor's Center and by phone at 252-426-5123.

Buy a chance to win a $200 downtown shopping spree. Downtown merchants will raffle off the spree to benefit the merchants association.
