BENNETTS MILLPOND AND EDENTON NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY OFFICIALLY ON THE NCBT
For more information contact:
Edenton, NC - The Chowan County Tourism Development Authority was notified over the Christmas Holiday that Bennetts Mill Pond and the Edenton National Fish Hatchery will be included on the North Carolina Birding Trail (NCBT). These sites are two of the sites that were submitted and presently meet the necessary criteria to be placed on the trail by the Site Nomination Committee.
Over the coming months, the North Carolina Birding Trail Steering Committee will be refining the trail layout and identifying specific loops, spurs, directions, etc. As this type of information is finalized, it will be posted to their website (www.ncbirdingtrail.org) and when the coastal component is completed, hopefully by Spring 2006, they will produce and publish a hard copy trail guide. As the Committee moves forward with development they will include our supporting resources within the Edenton area as well.
Chowan County is excited about Bennetts Mill Pond and the Edenton Fish Hatchery both being named to the trail and looks forward to working with the committee as they pursue opportunities to re-evaluate the potential of some of our other sites as paddle-trail access possibilities. We are fortunate to live in a region with extensive waterways making paddling a great way for people to access some of the best birdwatching in the world.
